A Reflection from Armis’ Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder on Gartner® Critical Capabilities for CPS Protection Platforms

smart factory automation concept - robotic arm

At Armis, we know that every asset-intensive organization today operates connected systems known by many different names – including traditional IT, operational technology (OT), the Internet of Things (IoT), Industrial IoT (IIoT), the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), smart buildings or converged IT/OT systems. These environments all have one thing in common: while they’re managed digitally, they interact with the real, physical world; hence the term cyber physical systems (CPS). This fusion of the digital and physical is complex and has demanded a new, more comprehensive approach to security.

“Security for these connected assets used to be “out of sight, out of mind,” or covered under a generic OT security umbrella dominated by network-centric tools. An asset-centric security discipline has emerged, however, as organizations aiming to reduce cyber risks started asking questions such as:

  • “What CPS do I have?”
  • “How do they connect?”
  • “What is their risk profile and how can I improve my security controls as a result?”

Our opinion is that Armis has built a platform that answers these questions and more. Here’s how we do it and why we’re so proud of the recognition we received in the 2025 Gartner Critical Capabilities for CPS Protection Platforms.

What CPS Do I Have?

Our core belief is that effective security for CPS needs to be holistic and flexible. That’s why Armis Centrix™ operates as a platform with five key products: Asset Management, OT/IoT Security, Medical Device Security, ViPR Pro- Vulnerability Prioritization and Remediation, and Early Warning. These products are designed to discover and map a variety of assets including:

  • Operational Technology (OT): Systems in industries like manufacturing or energy, which control physical processes.
  • IoT (Internet of Things) Devices: Smart devices that may connect to critical infrastructure.
  • Medical Devices: Devices that are integral to healthcare networks.
  • Cloud and non-cloud IT Assets: Encompassing both cloud-based and traditional IT systems.

And this is just the beginning. We are committed to expanding our portfolio further, continuing to build the future of CPS security alongside our customers. We feel Armis scored 3.53 in the Gartner Critical Capabilities for CPS Protection Platforms report for the Discover and Map CPS Assets Use Case because of the Armis Centrix™ Cyber Exposure Management Platform’s ability to discover, map and secure all CPS assets. Armis Centrix™ ensures visibility and protection across these diverse assets, even identifying physical and virtual, unconventional and ephemeral devices that could pose security risks.

How Do They Connect?

Armis Centrix™ utilizes multiple systems to provide a cohesive security approach that maps assets based on context and improves threat and vulnerability management:

  • 5 Billion Strong Asset Intelligence Engine: Armis’ Asset Intelligence Engine maps connected devices, providing essential context (e.g., type, function, ownership) to understand their roles within the network, enabling enhanced targeted security measures.
  • Early Warning Detection:Armis uses AI-driven analytics and deception technology to detect threats early. By continuously monitoring asset behavior, it identifies subtle anomalies and early signs of compromise. Its deception technology creates digital decoys to lure attackers, exposing their tactics before they can reach critical assets.
  • Integration with Existing Tech Stack: Armis integrates smoothly with existing systems, offering a comprehensive view of all assets and devices. It aggregates and correlates data to enhance visibility, helping security teams understand risks and threats in real time. This deep integration improves security workflows, fills blind spots, and aligns with broader IT strategies.

What is Their Risk Profile and How Can I Improve My Security Controls as a Result?

Armis helps organizations prioritize their CPS Security Issues and subsequent remediation efforts and improve their CPS risk profile through:

  • Proactive Threat Detection: Strategic acquisitions have allowed us to enhance our capabilities in proactive threat detection and vulnerability management. Our goal is clear: help customers identify, prioritize, and mitigate risks associated with their assets. With these acquisitions, we are empowering organizations to take a more proactive, risk-based approach to CPS security.
  • Improving Threat and Vulnerability Management: With a score of 3.60 in the Improve Threat and Vulnerability Management Use Case, Armis proactively addresses potential vulnerabilities within CPS environments.
  • Prioritizing Risks and Remediation: Armis helps organizations prioritize security issues with a score of 3.62 in the Prioritize CPS Security Issues and Remediation Use Case, in our opinion ensuring that the most critical threats are tackled first.

Key Findings and Roadmap Alignment

In our opinion Armis’ score of 3.66 in the Monitor CPS Security; Align to Enterprise Efforts Use Case, highlights its ability to deliver across all assets at scale across industries and the world. integrate security efforts across both CPS and broader IT systems. Armis is proud to offer all of these features within our platform, ensuring we meet the growing demands of our customers.

As the CPS security landscape evolves, so do the needs of end-user organizations. The shift from passive asset discovery and monitoring to more proactive capabilities “Once focused mainly on passive asset discovery and monitoring, vendors now rapidly deploy additional capabilities, such as active querying, vulnerability management, threat management, and integration with other IT security tools” is clear. Increasingly, organizations require more than just asset discovery. They need proactive mitigations that go beyond identifying risks and extend to continuous monitoring and immediate responses. Armis has heard this feedback from our customers and continues to double down on our CPS capabilities.

According to Gartner, “Choosing from among cloud-only, on-premises and hybrid capabilities remains a key decision point for vendor selection, as does vertical industry depth.” We feel Armis is continuously building out specialized features tailored to specific industries, ensuring we provide the best solution for every sector.

A Platform Built for the Future

In our opinion, Armis remains at the forefront of CPS protection, and our recent product scores are a testament to that. We’re not only keeping up with the evolving needs of organizations but also actively shaping the future of CPS security. As our platform grows, we’ll continue to put our customers first with comprehensive protection, seamless integration, and proactive mitigation.
